Dracaena Lodge

CUYABENO  WILDLIFE RESERVE

The Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve is located in the northern Amazon region of Ecuador and includes the watersheds of three important rivers: the Cuyabeno, the Lagartococha and the Aguarico.

Although the mainland tropical rainforest is the most abundant ecosystem in the reserve (and in the Amazon in general), it is the flooded ecosystems adjacent to the Cuyabeno and Lagartococha rivers that distinguish this protected area from others in the eastern region, as it is the largest lake system in the Ecuadorian Amazon, with a wide variety of flora and fauna that make it one of the most biodiverse areas on the planet. The protected area also has great cultural value because it is home to ancestral Siona, Secoya, Cofán, Kichwa, and Shuar indigenous nationalities.

LAGO AGRIO

In Quito the climate tends to be very variable, there are only two marked seasons, summer and winter, the region is classified as dry and wet. On the way to Cuyabeno Lodge, we start from a dry and occasionally rainy area and move towards Papallacta, where cloud cover and low temperatures predominate. Papallacta has a cold Andean climate due to its altitude (3,300 masl) and its proximity to the snow-capped Antisana Mountain. Napo has a tropical savanna climate, which means that it is hot every month, both in the dry and wet seasons. The average annual temperature in Napo is 30°, the average humidity is 81%, this is the gateway to the Ecuadorian Amazon. Arriving at la Joya de los Sachas the climate is warm-humid, and rainfall is constant, it is usually very hot, humid, and rainy throughout the year. Lago Agrio has an equatorial climate very similar to that of la Joya de los Sachas. The average annual temperature in Lago Agrio is 29° and rainfall is high, the average humidity is 83%.

EL COCA

Puerto Francisco de Orellana, also known as El Coca, is surrounded by three great rivers, Napo, Coca and Payamino. In the past, the indigenous natives of the areas, the Tagaeris or Sachas, visited this place to perform their healing rituals with chewed coca leaves.

El Coca is at an altitude of 255 to 300 (masl) and has a tropical savanna climate, between hot and humid. It has short, hot, and mostly cloudy summers; the winters are short, hot, and partly cloudy; and it is oppressive and humid year-round. Humidity is 80% and UV index is 6. During the year, the temperature generally varies from 20 °C to 31 °C and rarely goes below 19 °C or rises above 34 °C.
