¡Alrededor del 2% de la selva amazónica se encuentra dentro de las fronteras de Ecuador en las estribaciones de los Andes, que contiene aproximadamente un tercio de su diversidad! La Reserva Faunística Cuyabeno protege 590.112 hectáreas. Ubicado justo a lo largo de la lía ecuatorial, en la zona noreste de la selva amazónica ecuatoriana, en Cuyabeno es posible identificar más de 500 especies diferentes de coloridas aves, desde pequeños colibríes hasta la majestuosa águila arpía.
Dentro de una hectárea de esta reserva, es posible encontrar hasta 240 especies de diferentes plantas, muchas de las cuales todavía se utilizan con fines médicos en la actualidad. Jaguares, monos, tapires, perezosos, delfines rosados de río (Iniageoffrensis y Sotaliafluviatilis), manatíes y armadillos son solo algunos de los mamíferos que viven en la Reserva de Vida Silvestre Cuyabeno. Para completar la biodiversidad de esta reserva natural, no deben dejar de mencionarse impresionantes reptiles como las anacondas y los caimanes. En los ríos y lagos de aguas negras hay una variedad de especies de peces como pirañas, bagres y arapaimas (que pueden alcanzar los 2 metros de largo) y muchos otros. La Reserva de Vida Silvestre Cuyabeno no solo proporciona hábitat para innumerables plantas y animales, sino también para muchos pueblos y comunidades indígenas como los Siona, Secoya, Kichwa y Cofane.

ITINERARIO
Ubicación: Parte alta y baja de la Reserva Cuyabeno
This is the most adventurous tour into the Ecuadorian Amazon rainforest in our program and includes camps in different places deep in the Cuyabeno Reserve. The tour explores the upper and lower parts of the reserve, with canoe rides along the Cuyabeno & Aguarico Rivers until the border with Peru and exploring the Lagartococha Lakes. You visit native communities, stay at traditional open huts with thatched roofs and in tents at campsites deep in the rainforest (all beds/tents are equipped with mosquito nets). This kind of adventure trip involves simple accommodation but with high quality equipment and service and that toilet and showers will be shared.
DAY 01: Trip to the lodge.
Conduciremos durante aproximadamente 2 horas hasta llegar a 'El Puente', que es el acceso principal a la Reserva de Vida Silvestre Cuyabeno y el último lugar de la civilización. Aquí almorzarás (box lunch) y luego navegaremos en una canoa motorizada por el río Cuyabeno durante aproximadamente 2 horas hasta llegar al lodge, durante este trayecto y con un poco de suerte ya se pueden observar las primeras especies de monos y aves. El río es extremadamente angosto en esta región y le permite experimentar la vida silvestre de cerca. Después de su llegada al lodge, tendrá tiempo para recuperarse y realizar su primer recorrido exploratorio en los alrededores del lodge. Después de la cena su guía bilingüe les informará sobre las actividades de los siguientes días…
DAY 02: Navigation downstream Cuyabeno - Kichwa Campsite
After breakfast, you will start your adventure in a motor canoe along the Cuyabeno and Aguarico Rivers, entering the Amazon until you reach your campsite, looking out for birds, sloths and monkeys along the way. Box lunch.
The canoe ride will take approx. 4 hours, but you will make stops to stretch your legs and enjoy the sand beaches of the Aguarico river. In the afternoon you will arrive at the Zancudo campsite of the local Kichwa community.
DAY 03: Salt Lick with Parakeets and Parrots - Night Swim in the Delfin Cocha Lake
Before breakfast, you will visit a salt lick at the riverbank which many parakeets and parrots visit (note: on rainy days only few birds come to these places).
Then you continue downstream Cuyabeno River to the confluence of Cuyabeno and Aguarico River, the latter being a white-water river. You will continue for approx. another 3 ½ hours towards the border with Peru until you reach the Lagartococha River. Following the Lagartococha River upstream you reach the camp site situated deep in the remote jungle. accessing the flooded area shaped by a system of lakes and small rivers. Here you will have the opportunity to discover some lagoons connected by Black water rivers and explore the different ecosystems of the flooded forest or Varzea region. Box lunch. In the afternoon enjoy swimming in the Delfin Cocha Lake while observing some of the name giving freshwater pink dolphins (Inia Geofrensis). Overnight and dinner at the campsite.
DAY 04: Remote Secoya Community - Caiman Night Excursion
Enjoy a silent exploration of the area with your paddle canoe before breakfast. Later you head up the Lagartococha River by motorized canoe looking for the Terra Firme forest, a pristine primary rainforest. Then you visit Puerto Estrella, a remote Secoya community, where indigenous Peruvians and Ecuadorians live together. Box lunch included. The local guides will explain the traditions that their ancestors have passed on from generation to generation until today. Secoya women usually offer jungle bread made from yucca (manioc) to their visitors. In the afternoon you will return to the camp and in the night have the possibility to go on a canoe trip to look for caimans (Alligator family). Overnight and dinner at the campsite.
DAY 05: Birdwatching, Canoe journey to Zancudococha
Early in the morning you can enjoy a birdwatching tour with the paddle canoe. After breakfast you’ll start your way back down the Lagartococha River and then upstream Aguarico River to reach the Zancudococha campsite. After lunch you explore the area with the paddle canoe and enjoy the sunset in the jungle. Overnight and dinner at the campsite.
DAY 06: Canoe navigation upstream Aguarico River - Visit the Cofan Community
After breakfast you continue the navigation upstream Aguarico River. Box lunch included. On the way you stop at one of the small riverside villages from the local Cofan community to see their handicrafts. In the evening you reach the Lodge. Here you have some time to relax, enjoy dinner and go on an optional night walk (no extra costs).
DAY 07: Return to Lago Agrio
After breakfast you continue the navigation upstream Aguarico River. Box lunch included. On the way you stop at one of the small riverside villages from the local Cofan community to see their handicrafts. In the evening you reach the Lodge. Here you have some time to relax, enjoy dinner and go on an optional night walk (no extra costs).

REQUERIMIENTOS
Para este viaje, debes tener una buena condición física para disfrutar de caminatas por la selva de 2 a 3 horas en un clima tropical húmedo. Sin embargo, si deseas omitir las caminatas y otras actividades descritas anteriormente y solo deseas participar de los viajes en canoa y hacer uso de las instalaciones del lodge, ¡claro que se puede! Es muy relajante disfrutar desde la hamaca el increíble paisaje que te brinda la amazonia.
HOW TO GET THERE
Transport Quito – Cuyabeno – Quito 2024:
Option 1:
By bus
Your touristic bus will be leaving from Quito at 23h00pm the day before your tour starts riding along the Andes down to the Amazon basin, reaching Cuyabeno Bridge (National Park Entrance) at about 09h00am giving you some free time (e.g. to have an optional breakfast) before your tour starts (usually between 10:00 am and 11:00 am).
After the tour ends at the Cuyabeno bridge (usually between 10:00 am and 11:00 am) you take the tourist bus back to Quito (you will be back in Quito at about 21h00pm)

By plane and bus
Your plane will leave from Quito’s Airport at 09h30am, flying through the Andean snow-capped volcanoes and reaching Coca at about 10h00am where your transport will await you and your jungle tour starts with the transfer to Cuyabeno Bridge (National Park Entrance). From here you take your canoe along the calm Cuyabeno River to your lodge.
After the tour ends at the Cuyabeno bridge you take the tourist bus back to Quito (approximately 10 hours - you will be back in Quito at about 21h00pm)

Option 3:
By plane Version A
Your plane will be leaving from Quito at 09h30am, reaching the charming Amazonian town of El Coca at about 10h00am where your transport will await you and your tour starts with the transfer to Cuyabeno Bridge (National Park Entrance). From here you will take a relaxing canoe ride along the Cuyabeno River to your lodge.
After the tour ends at the Cuyabeno bridge a taxi will drive you back to Coca where you will stay the night. The next morning you take a taxi (ca. US$ 3) to the airport and take the plane at 10h30am back to Quito (you will be back at Quito Airport at about 11h00am)

Your plane will be leaving from Quito’s airport at 09h30am, reaching the Amazon Basin town of Coca at about 10h00am where your transport will await you and your tour starts with the transfer to Cuyabeno Bridge (National Park Entrance). From here you take your canoe along the Cuyabeno River to your lodge.
At 04:00 am you return in canoe to the Cuyabeno bridge from where your taxi will drive you back to Coca to the airport and take the plane at 10h30am back to Quito (you will be back at Quito Airport at about 11h00am)

Important:
For travelers traveling on a budget, we recommend Option 1, but please note that especially the first bus ride during the night is quite a bit demanding.
For relaxed travelers, we recommend Option 2, as the long drive back in the bus is during the day and you will have quite impressive views of the rainforest and then later the cloud forest when driving up the slopes of the eastern range of the Andes. This way you do not lose a day for your jungle trip, flying to Coca and then traveling to the lodge the same day, and returning by bus after the tour you still sleep that day back in Quito and can continue your trip the next morning. This is generally our favorite and suggested option.
For travelers who prefer a more comfortable way of traveling, we recommend Option 3A, traveling by plane both ways and enjoying a free afternoon in Coca after the Amazon rainforest tour before returning to Quito the next morning.
For travelers who want to avoid the long bus ride but need to be back in Quito the same day the rainforest tour ends, we recommend Option 3B, but please note that you must say farewell to the lodge as early as 04:00 am to catch your flight that same day.
